After a driver's license revocation, it can feel like the end of the world. You are limited to where you can go and how you can get there. When your personal freedom and ability to get to work is in jeopardy, you need to do everything you can to get your driver's license reinstated and regain your driving privileges. Here is how to effectively restore your license and ability to drive.
Apply for a Restricted Driving Permit
If a court order does not restrain you from doing so, apply for a restricted driving permit from your local D.O.T. (Department of Transportation). Usually, this does not take much more than filling out a form, waiting your turn in line at the DMV/DOT, and paying a small fee. You do have to fill out a form to the best of your knowledge and ability, including all hours wherein you will need to drive a vehicle for work and/or school. You are not allowed to drive outside of the hours listed, so make sure you have the correct hours and work schedule listed.
Comply with Any Court-Ordered Punishments, Therapies, and Treatments
(If this does not apply to you and you lost your license via some other way, you can skip this section and read the next section.) If your license was revoked because of a DUI or DUI-related offense, and you have the opportunity to reinstate it with no legal prejudice, then you need to follow the court orders to the letter. This includes drug addiction therapy, rehab, and/or community service. When you comply with these orders and the court revisits your progress in a few months, you may be able to get your license back.
Purchase SR-22 Coverage
Insurance known as "SR-22" is often required in many states to regain your revoked license. Even if it is not required in your state, you may want to purchase it anyway. It backs your restricted license and covers you if anything untoward occurs. Additionally, purchasing SR-22 coverage is a show of "good faith" to the courts and provides a point your lawyer can make about your intentions to do better and drive better.
Hire a Traffic or DUI Lawyer
If applicable, hire a DUI lawyer to help you regain your license. If that does not apply, but you could still use the help of a lawyer to get your license back, hire a general practice attorney or a traffic lawyer. Any one of these can argue your case and show the judge that you have done everything possible to regain your license.

When I got married, I knew that there were a few things that I needed to learn about the way the world worked. For starters, I had to figure out how insurance worked since I wanted to make the most of my life without worrying about money. I started focusing on the policies that I had in place and gradually moved towards acquiring new life insurance and the like. Having each of these coverages helped give both me and my spouse peace of mind. We both knew if something happened to me that the other would be okay. Check out this blog to learn more about insurance needs.
